Entering motherhood is one of the biggest changes any woman can ever have. Every aspect of your life won’t be the same whether it be physical, mental, spiritual, or emotional. For most mums, this is a period in their lives that may be full of uncertainties and insecurities, and it’s completely understandable that it’s easy to find tips on how to gain confidence back.

Going through this amount of change will make anyone question themselves. Is this who I am? Will my body stay the same? Am I being a good mother? All of these questions and more are all related to self-confidence, so we came up with these five self-confidence tips for all the mums out there!

1. Practice Self-Care

First of all, you have to take care of yourself. To practice self-love, you should also work on making you and your surroundings a conducive environment for self-care. This can come in the form of regular exercising, eating healthily, and getting enough sleep.

The moment you become a mum, it can get quite difficult to pay attention to yourself and what your body needs. You wouldn’t have enough time to think about exercising or even going back to doing your hobbies. Thus, part of self-care is also reminding yourself that you deserve to treat yourself in the way that your body needs. Doing so would not only boost your self-confidence, but it will improve your physical state as well. Make time for yourself!

2. Build A Healthy Support Network

Of course, you can’t miss out on creating your healthy social circle. Just because you’ve become a mum doesn’t mean you can’t stay with a group of friends – we’re social beings after all!

Surrounding yourself with like-minded mums will help bring you a fresh perspective on what motherhood looks like in another person’s eyes. You can also take this as an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings with them to gain a second opinion on your dilemma. Friends are there for you to hype you up and boost your confidence, while also helping you stay grounded with practical advice.

3. Re-evaluate Social Media Standards

As usual, social media is a place where all you’ll see are perfect people in their perfect lives. When you’re too immersed on the internet, it can get difficult to get yourself out of that place so much so that you end up believing that perfection should look like a certain type of way.

News flash! You are your version of perfection, just like everyone else has their version. Take a breather from the internet and reevaluate social media standards. You don’t have to look like everyone else. Just be yourself, stay healthy, and live your own life!

4. Do Things That Make You Feel Good

The truth is that most mums don’t feel like themselves when they entered motherhood. They generally didn’t have time for themselves anymore – they have to put their children first above anything else, and they don’t have time to do pursue their hobbies and interests among other things.

This isn’t to say that you should be selfish, but it’s a reminder that you shouldn’t neglect yourself. Some confidence-building exercises include doing things that make you feel good. This could be as simple as reading your favourite books, going on bike rides around the neighbourhood, or simply watching a series on Netflix.

The point of all this is to help you realise that, while you are a mother, you also have interests outside of that that make you unique. Embracing your individuality is one way on how to gain confidence back. Remember, you are still you no matter what happens!

5. Work On Your Marriage

Our relationships have a huge impact on our self-confidence. One of the best ways on how to get confidence back is to work on your marriage. This doesn’t mean that you and your spouse must be having problems. However, you cannot deny that it has been difficult to find time with just you and your partner. Things such as date nights, easy-going conversations, and flirtatious banters are often overlooked.

When we feel secure and loved in a relationship, we get immense amounts of validation which boosts our confidence. Of course, working on your marriage is a two-way thing. Have a conversation with your spouse and work on it together as a team!
